Your profile
Your profile is edited in six sections. You can fill them in any order, and you can come back later — nothing has to be finished in one sitting.
The six sections
- Photos — your primary photo and any others you add.
- About you — your display name, a short headline and a longer description.
- Basics — gender, who you are seeking, date of birth, location, visibility and email preferences.
- Details — appearance, lifestyle, background and family.
- Interests — activities and interests, plus a few short prompts.
- Looking for — the attributes you would prefer, including 'no preference'.
Writing something people can reply to
The most useful profiles are specific and plain. A headline that names one real thing about your week works better than a slogan.
Try to give a reader something to ask about: an allotment, a long drive, a book you are stuck on. Two or three concrete details are worth more than a list of adjectives.
What is optional
Most fields are optional. Anything you leave blank simply shows as not provided rather than being guessed at. If you would rather not answer a question, several fields offer 'prefer not to say'.
Profile visibility
Basics includes a visibility setting. With visibility turned off, your profile stays out of browse and search. That is the specific effect of the setting; it is not a general privacy mode.
